Now, food is my passion. I would definately say that I'm a food snob. Don't get me wrong - one of my favorite dinners is beans on toast. I'm not "above" food. Food, however, is an important guiding force in my life. One of the only ways that I can honestly express myself.
And I get angry when others don't respect that.
Please keep reading, I'm not insane...
I'm no longer talking about the picky eater. I'm talking about the stupid eater. The "I'm going out and ordering chicken fingers" eater. Don't get me wrong, I like chicken fingers. But EVERYTIME? Seriously? Something you actually look forward to?
The "I've never tried that, but I know I don't like it" eater.
I was so proud of my roommate (Pizza and Sub fanatic) when he decided he wanted to celebrate his last birthday at a Sushi Restaurant (first time - he loved it).
I hate the eaters who don't know what they are talking about.
"I'm a vegetarian, but I'll take those cabbage rolls. I'll just spit the beef out"
"I'm so sick of salmon...I'll take the salmon"
(Inquiring about the Grilled Tuna on the menu) "How does the tuna not fall through the grill when you empty the can?"
"What's in your beef barley soup?" -- the asshole response would be, "Beef, and Barley"
We eat (or we should) 3 times a day. Yet we put more thought into a car purchase (which maybe, being generous, is an "every 5 years" purchase), than we put into what enters our body and feeds our everyday activities (including driving your precious car).
My challenge to each and every one of you out there for this week:
- try something new - an ingredient you've never used, or tasted before. Maybe it's veal, maybe cereal, or an exotic fruit. Who cares if you don't like it!! It'll be fun, I promise.
- centre an evening around dining. Not eating. Dining. You don't have to go out for this. Put on your favorite cd. Light some candles. Talk with loved ones about dreams. Share the best parts of your day. Indulge.
If intimacy isn't your bag, crank the tunes, invite buddys over to try some new wine or beer that you've discovered. Watch pulp fiction, with a different course for every different chapter.
Let me know how it goes. And invite me to the party, would ya?
